License Migration - June 1st, 2023

Created by Olivia Bednar, Modified on Tue, 24 Sep at 10:26 PM by Olivia Bednar

If your location or license was created after June 1st, 2023, you can ignore this!

On June 1st, 2023, we transitioned to using licenses. Licenses will come with a unique slug, just like locations and rooms. All locations will be moved to this license system.

How does it work?

For example, College University might have a Math department, before they might have had something like this:
https://rooms.chew.pw/math.
With the new change, College University would get their own slug, e.g. /cuni, with Math's /math going under it:
https://collegeu.roomlocations.com/math.

Why are we doing this?
This is happening for several reasons:
  1. Internal organization. We will be able to sort and organize locations into a single parent license, and be able to bill accordingly.
  2. Billing. We will start to bill licenses based on the location count. And we'll be able to start selling them too!

What will happen to old URLs?
We're going to mark all existing locations as legacy. This means once your location is under a license, old links will still work. For example, /math/exam will redirect to /collegeu/math/exam. We don't know how long this will happen for, but we'll let you know when we're going to deprecate old links.

We've likely already reached out to you regarding a license, what to use, etc. If we haven't please reach out to us!
